Coping With Change - A Positive Way to Predict the Outcome
Safety is a people problem. It would be far easier if accidents could be blamed on shaky ladders, unsecured valves or worn-out cables. We could fix them and be done with it. But safety professionals have been down this path for the last 40 years and it has not delivered the desired results. What is needed is a process that looks at an organization’s strengths and weaknesses and determines a better way to incorporate safety into the belief system and behaviors of all employees. The goal of this process is to change the organization’s safety culture until it becomes an internal value that is incorporated into every decision and work activity.
Specialty Safety Services’ Safety Management Consultant, Gordon Coffey, will facilitate the Dr. Dan Petersen Safety Management Series entitled, "The Challenge of Change." Dr. Petersen is one of America’s leading consultants in Safety Management and Organizational Behavior. Gordon is a graduate of multiple trainer seminars taught by Dr. Petersen. Changing your safety culture requires careful thought and preparation. Gordon will guide your management and employees through a flexible process designed to:
- Assess your current safety culture
- Identify the appropriate changes, and
- Plan and implement specific changes.
When safety is no longer thought of as an activity that someone else is "in charge of", the foundation for a quality safety culture is in place. Each manager, supervisor and line worker feels personally responsible for safety and takes an active role in promoting it. "The Challenge of Change" is a training series that promotes the concept of continual and never-ending improvement. The result is a safety culture that simply does not tolerate unsafe behavior.
